Devonshire Dairy Goat Farm is
located in North Central Florida. We have been seriously breeding goats for
almost 14 years. Our herd started over 15 years ago with a pair of kinder does
who patiently taught me the basics of goat raising.
The herd then expanded to
include a couple of Nubians and a Toggenburg. I then met my first LaMancha and
fell in love with the mischievous and joyful nature of that intelligent breed.
Not long after that, I saw the first specimen of what I consider to be the most
beautiful of the goat breeds - an Oberhasli.
Our herd is now comprised
almost entirely of those two breeds (my first two kinders and a few of their
pygmy cousins still reside here). We are certified and accredited for TB and
Brucellosis and are in our 6th year on the Voluntary Scrapie Eradication
Program. We have tested twice for Johnes disease (blood test in combination with
fecal test) and have been negative both times.
We test every 6 months for CAE
through WSU and raise our kids on a CAE prevention program. We are very happy
to report that all of the animals in our CAE negative herd have tested negative
again in our most recent test (May 2006). We began participating in the ADGA
DHIR program in 2001 and have participated 4 x in the Linear Appraisal program
since May 2001.
In 2003, we were honored to have one of our Oberhasli doelings accepted into the
2003 ADGA National Spotlight Sale for the first time. Devonshire Julep's Jolie
sold for $1700 to Dr. Ralph Zimmerman, DVM. Then in 2005, our second Spotlight
Sale consignment, Devonshire Creating Havoc, became the highest selling
Oberhasli kid ever sold at a Spotlight Sale going for $4800 to Joel Smith and
Kaye White. Congratulations to them on their winning bid and many thanks for
their purchase of Havoc. We've been very excited to see that both Jolie and
Havoc have been competitive at shows both on a local level and at the National
level.
Each year we offer a number of select show quality kids and milkers for sale in
order to keep our herd size manageable. A small deposit will hold the kid of
your choice. Should the kid you want not be born then your deposit will be
cheerfully refunded or you can select an alternate breeding.
Arrangements for delivery of
purchased animals are the responsibilty of the buyer and should be made as soon
as possible after notification that the animal is available. For additional
information on any animal, please feel free to contact us either by e-mail or by
phone.
We also have limited quanities
of semen available for sale on most of our herdsires. Please inquire about
possible shipping or delivery if interested.
